Description

A theatrical expo that offers performing opportunities for emerging and established "creatives" to share and exhibit his/her talents, and audiences to be entertained. Simply put, Macon the Stage is a grand experience. Attendees are guaranteed to enjoy, learn, and celebrate the arts through top-quality events that pay tribute to legendary artist of yesterday and recognize new artist of today. The 2020 theme is Bourbon, BBQ & Blues, and everything happens at the Historic Douglass Theatre!

Macon the Stage is anchored by a partnership between Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, Douglass Theatre and Land Mindz Inc. Funds from the event goes toward scholarships to provide youth access to attend summer enrichment camps and experience cultural arts events.

The Douglass Theatre hosts a variety of events including film presentations and educational performances. True to its historic reputation as a magnet for the entire community, "The Douglass" hosts national-quality performances, and is beacon for driving culture forward.

The theatre was erected in 1921 by Charles Henry Douglass- Macon, GA's first African American/Black millionaire; and is historic treasure where ideas/creativity are birthed, cultivated and shared. Many notable Black artists got his/her start or have graced the Douglass's stage - Otis Redding, James Brown, Little Richard, Ma Rainey -just to name a few
